ProsperOps now supports Cloud Run and GKE Autopilot in addition to existing support for Compute Engine and GKE Standard. Autonomous Discount Management (ADM) for Google Cloud Compute Engine is now ADM for Google Cloud Compute.
Expanded Coverage with Flexible Committed Use Discounts
As cloud adoption accelerates, our customers are increasingly leveraging managed services, such as Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Autopilot and Cloud Run. Fortunately, Google has expanded the use of spend-based Flex CUDs to cover certain GKE Autopilot and Cloud Run usage in addition to the already covered GKE Standard and Compute Engine. This expanded coverage offers more flexibility as spend-based Flex CUDs can float between services; previously, GKE Autopilot and Cloud Run were only coverable by less flexible resource-based Committed Use Discounts (CUDs) specific to each service.
GKE Autopilot, a fully managed Kubernetes service, can be covered with Legacy Autopilot CUDs or spend-based Flex CUDs (though Legacy Autopilot CUDs will no longer be available for purchase after October 15, 2024). Legacy Autopilot CUDs apply at the Cloud Billing account level to all projects within a specific region and provide a 20% and a 45% discount off on-demand for 1-year and 3-year terms, respectively. Conversely, Flex CUDs cover a list of 446 GKE Autopilot vCPU and Memory SKUs. Flex CUDs are purchased at the Cloud Billing account level, and they apply to any region and project within the Cloud Billing account. Flex CUDs offer higher discounts than Legacy Autopilot CUDs with 28% and 46% off on-demand for 1-year and 3-year terms, respectively.
Cloud Run, a fully managed serverless platform for deploying and running containerized applications, can be covered with Cloud Run CUDs or spend-based Flex CUDs. Cloud Run CUDs apply to all Cloud Run jobs within a specific region in a Cloud Billing account and offer a 17% discount off on-demand pricing for a 1-year term. In contrast, Flex CUDs offer additional flexibility and savings. Flex CUDs apply to 172 Cloud Run SKUs, applied at the Cloud Billing account level to usage occurring in any region or project; they also offer higher discounts than Cloud Run CUDs, with 28% and 46% off on-demand for 1-year and 3-year terms, respectively.
This additional coverage with spend-based Flex CUDs enhances flexibility and generates more savings than with resource-based CUDs alone.
More Savings, Less Effort with ProsperOps
In response to Google’s expanded spend-based Flex CUD coverage, we’ve updated our optimization algorithms to incorporate these additional services, enabling us to generate more savings for our Google Cloud customers.
Our latest updates include the following:
Expanded Coverage: ADM for Google Cloud Compute now incorporates Cloud Run and GKE Autopilot usage into its optimization algorithms, in addition to existing GKE Standard and Compute Engine support. This significantly increases the number of SKUs that can benefit from our service, potentially unlocking substantial additional savings on your compute spend.
Enhanced Optimization: Based on learnings from Early Access customers, our platform has a deeper awareness of compute usage patterns across Compute Engine, GKE, and Cloud Run services. It also understands the nuances, applications, and limitations of different resource-based CUDs and spend-based Flex CUDs. This holistic view enables more precise optimizations as usage changes over time.
Comprehensive Savings Dashboard: The customer console now displays usage, spend, and savings data for all supported compute services, providing you with visibility and insights into your rate optimization efforts.
Simplified Management: Instead of spending time juggling separate rate optimization strategies for different services, we now provide a unified approach to cost optimization across Compute Engine, GKE, and Cloud Run.
Here is the ProsperOps console’s Spend Coverage Trend for ADM for Google Cloud Compute, which shows coverage increasing over time with additional support for Cloud Run and GKE Autopilot. In the key, Base represents spend-based Flex CUDs, and Smart represents resource-based CUDs.
